80,000 rugby fans came together to pay tribute to an Evesham rugby player who died earlier this month.
Jack Jeffery died after sustaining an injury whilst scoring a try for Evesham Rugby in their match with Berkswell & Balsall on February 12.
Yesterday, the sell-out crowd at Twickenham for England’s Six Nations match with Wales held a round of applause in memory of the 26-year-old.
One of those in attendance was Becki Caulton, 47.
Mrs Caulton spent the first 21 years of her life growing up in Evesham and although she didn’t know Mr Jeffery personally, the power of that moment was felt all the same.
She said: “It was a beautiful tribute to Jack. The entire stadium clapped but a lot of people stood. Really heart-warming.”
Mrs Caulton, a paralegal now living in Rugby, attended the game with her husband Byron, a player for Old Laurentian’s RFC.
She captured the touching moment in a video, which you can watch below:
England won the important match 23-19, a single try from Alex Dombrandt and 18 points from Marcus Smith enough to earn the victory.
The hosts announced they would pay tribute to Mr Jeffery earlier in the week.
After the game, the England Rugby Twitter account posted: “Today we held a minute's applause for Jack Jeffery.
“Gone, but not forgotten. RIP Jack.”
