Motorists in Evesham and Pershore are being asked not to park on grass verges.

Wychavon District Council are urging motorists not to park their cars on the verges as it is making it difficult to cut the grass.

The district’s contractor Smart Cut has been unable to carry out grass cutting in several areas because of the number of vehicles parked on the roadside verges.

Cllr Emma Stokes, executive board member for environment and street scene on Wychavon District Council, said: “We know some residents park on grass verges because they think they are being helpful by not parking on the road, but this is causing a real issue for our contractor.

“If we can’t cut the grass then it will soon become unsightly and may also cause access issues. We ask residents parking on verges to find alternative places to leave their vehicles.”

She added: “Motorists should also be aware that parking on a verge where there are waiting restrictions on the road next to it may also lead to a parking fine being issued.

“Even if there aren’t waiting restrictions next to the verge, the police can take action if your vehicle is parked dangerously or causing an obstruction.”

The problem is particularly an issue on the Abbey State and the area in and around Hurst Road.

It is also prevalent in Fairfield, Cheltenham Road and Greenhill in Evesham.
