MEMBERS of the Evesham Volunteer Centre were given the opportunity to meet Prince Edward during a visit to Worcester.
The Prince met a number of organisations who worked to help the community during the pandemic.
Organised by Worcester Community Foundation, the Prince talked to the Volunteer Centre’s chief officer Helen Gray and Barbara Ford, the chair of the centre and learned of the roles volunteers had taken on since the start of the pandemic.
Helen said: “His Royal Highness was interested to hear how we had 300 new volunteers register with us - mainly people on furlough – and how they had helped deliver nearly 11,000 prescriptions to those self-isolating and shielding, had done weekly supermarket trips for over 80 households and had given telephone support to 112 new befriending clients.”
“He was also amused by the slightly more unusual roles we filled, such as finding jam jars for jam makers, sourcing knitting wool and jigsaw puzzles, setting up a vegetable plant exchange for those wanting to grow their own and organising a zoom birthday party for a 100 year old.”
Anyone wishing to volunteer with the centre should ring 01386 570530 or email co@eveshamvolunteers.org.uk for more information.
