THE Post Office is seeking new premises for its counter in Harvington after the present postmaster announced his retirement.

The current facility is part of a private home, in Village Street, so a new location needs to be found to continue the service locally.

A Post Office spokesperson said: “Following the resignation of the postmaster and the withdrawal of the premises for post office use, Harvington Post Office will temporarily close in July.

“We know how important post office services are to people in Harvington and we apologise to customers for any inconvenience caused. We would like to reassure customers that the Post Office is committed to maintaining a post office service in the area and will work hard to ensure this."

Local resident Derek Newsham said he was concerned about the threatened closure.

"The nearest alternative facilities are at Salford Priors or Evesham which are around three miles away. Having a post office in this village is important for elderly residents who find it difficult to travel to use the service."

Any retailer or small business owner interested in running the post office and incorporating it into their business should ring 0845 266 8790 or email NTquestions@postoffice.co.uk or visit www.runapostoffice.co.uk.”
