A BRAND new purpose built languages block is to be built an Evesham school after it was awarded nearly £2 million in funding.
Prince Henry's High School have been celebrating the news it was awarded more than £1.9 million to rebuild its modern foreign languages block.
The cash injection will come from the Academies Capital Maintenance Fund for 2014/15 and see the school create the new building with 12 state of the art classrooms, an enhanced office space, a new ICT server room, a redeveloped new front entrance and a large open space foyer.
And as part of the development the front driveway and walkways around the school will also be improved.
Headteacher Dr Tony Evans said it was what the students deserved.
"The new building will allow our students to learn in an environment they truly deserve and will serve for many generations to come," he said.
"I would like to express my appreciation to my Senior Team and Governing Body for their vision and support with this project.
"In particular I would like to mention my Business Manager, Zoé Smith, for her work in preparing our funding bid.
"I am also grateful to Sir Peter Luff MP for his support with our Capital Maintenance application."
Sir Peter was also delighted with the news of the funding but said there was still more to be done.
"It's a great school but great schooling requires great facilities, so it's great to know this large investment is taking place.
"It's very important to learn new languages as part of our prosperity and for communication with people over seas.
"But there is still more to be done. Prince Henry's needs more money for the sciences and from national funding for teaching. There is much more to be done but this is unreservedly good news."
The news comes just weeks after the school was named as one of only 200 in the country to become a national teaching school.
It was selected by the National College for Teaching and Leadership to take on the position, which is important in raising standards and takes a leading role in recruiting and training new entrants to the profession, identifying leadership potential and providing support for other schools.
