THESE latest images show the progress being made on Abbey Bridge with the project now four weeks into the scheduled 10 week full closure.
Concrete to both arches was placed last week and the shuttering will start to be removed to expose the new arches imminently.
Placement of the new steel beams has taken place under the bridge with the help of a 350t crane located on the river bank.
A restrictive passage will remain open to allow craft to pass under the bridge, this will be controlled by River Avon Trust. Once the beams have been installed the erection of the crash deck will commence. The crash deck will be erected from barges on the river.
The crash deck is to protect people using the river while the existing bridge deck is demolished and the new structure built. The Crash deck will reduce the navigation channel to 30ft wide and an air draft of 10ft from Normal Summer Level.
