TWO Charollais crossbred calves were born four days apart to a Fresian cow on the Springhill, Fladbury, farm of JF Bomford Ltd, the Journal reported 50 years ago.
The first, weighing 106lb, was born on a Thursday and the second, weighing 102lb, arrived on the following Monday, in February 1963.
John Moss, veterinary director of the Avoncroft A.I. Centre at Bromsgrove, which supplied the semen, said it was most unusual for a cow to give birth to twins such a long time apart. This was more common in ewes.
The heaviest weight of any Charollais cross calf born from semen supplied by the centre was 135lb.
