THE Malvern Theatres Young Company will be taking a local audience on an amusing and moving visit to Wales, while setting their sights on the Edinburgh Festival Fringe.

Open auditions for a far-travelling production of Under Milk Wood, by Dylan Thomas, have just been announced.

A spokesman said: “Following the success of their Edinburgh Fringe debut in August, Malvern Theatres Young Company are proud to announce details of the summer 2019 production. Malvern Theatres Young Company will be staging “Under Milk Wood” by Dylan Thomas.”

Under Milk Wood is famously ‘a play for voices’ and was originally written as a radio play, although live stage performances in New York soon followed, shortly before Dylan Thomas’ untimely death at the age of 39.

The play captures much of his wit as a poet and writer and an observer of human life and foibles, and the script is rich with expression and well-drawn characters.

This production will be directed by Nic Lloyd and will be performed from Wednesday August 7 to Saturday August 10 at Malvern Theatres, before touring to Edinburgh Festival Fringe.

There it will be performed in the round at the Space@ Niddry Street from Monday August 12 to Saturday August 17.

The spokesman added: “Auditions are open to both existing and new members, aged 16 years and over. Applicants must be available for all rehearsals starting from Saturday July 20 until the end of performances in Edinburgh, on Sunday August 18, 2019.

Auditions will take place between January 20 and 30.

Successful young actor will have to meet participant costs, to cover fees including, all costume, administration, travel, accommodation, insurance and breakfast in Edinburgh.
