A DRUG dealer from Worcester was caught with 24 deal bags and cannabis when searched by police.

Jason Cartwright pleaded guilty to possessing cannabis with intent to supply after being found with about £1,000 worth of the drug.

The 31-year-old, of Cannon Street in Worcester, was arrested on Friday, September 1 after being found in possession of 100 grams of cannabis.

In court, Shafquat Riaz, prosecuting, said that police became suspicious of Cartwright when they “stopped to speak to the defendant”,

Mr Riaz added: “Officers continued to talk to the defendant, asking him if they were to search him would they find anything. He was intoxicated.”

The officers searched his backpack and found 24 cannabis deal bags.

Cartwright was arrested and taken into custody, where officers discovered £754 in cash, which he said was from selling a motorcycle and a casino win.

Whilst being interviewed, he admitted to “selling a bit of weed”, Mr Riaz said.

The court heard that Cartwight had been buying cannabis in “bulk” and that he and his friends would sell to each other when their own supply had run out.

Jo Outhwaite, defending, said: “He uses £80 to £90 pounds worth of cannabis a week – a collaboration of friends use a similar amount of cannabis. Quite often of you buy a larger amount, you get a better deal.”

Cartwright pleaded guilty at Worcester Magistrates Court last Thursday. He was granted unconditional bail and will next appear at Worcester Crown Court for sentencing on Friday, December 22.
