THE Evesham Regatta has been cancelled due to safety concerns after the river level was found to be too high.
The annual rowing event is hosted by the Evesham Rowing Club at the Evesham Boathouse and was planned to happen this weekend, May 4 and 5.
However due to high water levels the event has now been cancelled with participants being offered a full refund.
Luckily, today (May 4) was sunny and so the club held a last minute BBQ of which hundreds attended.
In a Facebook post yesterday, Evesham Rowing Club said: "Having spent the day setting up for the regatta and getting everything ready to go, the weather gods have turned against us.
"The river level is now expected to be higher than anticipated and reluctantly we have decided to cancel both days of the regatta."
The club now hopes to reschedule the event for later in the summer.
