EVERY dog has its day, but not all of them get to have a beer named after them.
Not so Paddy, a six-month-old German shepherd, collie cross, who has not only found himself a loving new home in a pub, the brewery has dedicated a cask ale to him.
Paddy has been re-homed from Evesham Dogs Trust by Claire Carson and Ian Latimer, landlords of The Golden Cross, at Harvington.
The couple, who have just celebrated their first anniversary at the pub, took charge of Paddy last month and he has become a favourite among customers.
Miss Carson said: "We are so pleased to have Paddy. He has such a delightful, pleasant nature. He came to join us on St Patrick's Day and as he came from Ireland and my dad is Irish he just had to be called Paddy."
During a meeting with Simon Foster, business development manager of The Wychwood Brewery, in Witney, it was suggested that maybe a personalised name could be given to one of the beers and so "Paddy's Pint" came to fruition.
"Paddy's Pint is a deep golden coloured bitter with a citric and earthy hop aroma and flavour with caramel malt notes and we are looking forward to adding it to our selection," said Mr Latimer.
Paddy, however, it not as interested in the amber nectar as his owners and hasn't given his personalised pinta so much as a sniff.
The couple had an uphill struggle after taking over the previously closed premises which had become renowned for 'never being open'.
But their hard work and perseverance has paid off and they now have a thriving business with a restaurant that has a reputation for fabulous food, a great cellar of fine wines and excellent beers and lagers.
Miss Carson added: "We have really enjoyed our first year at the Golden Cross which we celebrated on April 23rd. We also raised £178 with some amazing raffle prizes for the "Harvey Bears" of Harvington Nursery and Pre-School with awesome music from "High Definition" (Henry Carson and Dave Meredith).
"Courtesy of the amazing people of Harvington, as well as our visitors from far and near, our fund raising during this first year has reached an incredible £3,115. 67 and helped not only local charities but also Help4Heroes, the Children's Cancer Unit of Birmingham Children's Hospital and several others."
